Anacreon(born ca. 570 BC) was a Greek lyric poet, notable for his drinking songs and hymns.Anacreon wrote all of his poetry in the ancient Ionic dialect. Like all early lyric poetry, it was composed to be sung or recited to the accompaniment of music, usually the lyre.Anacreon's poetry touched on universal themes of love, infatuation, disappointment, revelry, parties, festivals, and the observations of everyday people and life.

Am I cynical?

Alright, dont think that the title is complete. I should have added that if the answer is yes, then is being cynical bad? Not that it would have much difference. If you are already on page, then the chances are that you know me, and will either close your browser or go on to read this musing just to find out if my cynicism has reduced?
I worked in a large IT firm for around 3 years. The only months (days?) that I enjoyed were when my training was on during the initial 2 months. I have hated every second after that. To me my manager conveyed what the company stood for. He was never ready to listen, take a feedback or respect the other person. It was not a symbiotic relationship, but a one way discourse. No questions were entertained, individualism was not given credit and a different approach that was not a part of the "process" was looked down upon. Every morning it was impossible for me to motivate myself to go to office for the sole reason that I did not want to see my manger's face. But then we have been taught never to quit and I also had my aim towards further studies. So my manager was just a stop gap arrangement that I had to ignore till the time I escaped from his clutches.
Well MBA did happen and I found myself among the people selected in a reputed B School in India. Like the first few weeks into my job, I was full of enthusiasm and had a lot of dreams. These weeks were as good as they could have been. But then as time passes you begin to notice flaws. Familiarity breeds contempt they say. I am too new to this place to judge what character it is made of. So it would not be fair to pass a comment on the institution. But yes, the interactions as an individual and in groups with the seniors has given birth to those nightmares that I thought I had buried in the past. I see in them my manager present in varying degrees. Though they have not reached that stage, but their larger number surely makes the matter graver. There is total lack of empathy in meetings, juniors are not given a chance to speak their mind, individualism is curbed and feedbacks are stifled. Is this the kind of manager that I would like to become? The answer is an unequivocal NO. But then I said I was cynical, so if you did not like any of the things I have written, please ignore it as a folly due to my bitter nature, and ya please don't fine me...........

So, friend ! I see you have poured your heart this time. The best manager is one who dominates the group and forces his ideas down the throat of his friend or foe.
Thanks for this tiny glimpse to the school of mgmt studies. This does tell me that in real life from CEO to peon, when your ideas of healthy changes (to society) are forced out in the spate of keeping bottom line up. The people have to bow down to bottom-line aspects of business and lick the ass of boss to survive with normal life. This is the intersection point where moral values, ethics and education institution as a whole fails and lakhs of literate fools are spawned.

The symptoms of vandalism and eploitation is blatant in latest movies,TV advertisements and our very own Fourth estate is riding gracefully on it.

Minds of millions are brain-washed everyday to keep the notion of capitalism and cosumerism alive to get profits and get political mileage. Also playing are underdogs of few companies that keep these journalism institutions running show.

My tiny request to you is focus on betterment of society and question and fight against any compromise done to environment and citizens only to keep bottom-line north.

Any Growth in balanced manner both social and economical fosters sustainability. Others are merely sustaining based on profits made over years and others die down scrambling for exponential growth after few years of startup.

Please be careful before choosing your band-wagon.

Mere rat race for moolah will not achieve anything. All tiny wrong things that goes around comes back with more force when it hurts society as a whole.

Hope this is understood by all our younger generations choosing careers to only earn more money.

Few idiots and learned rascals (politicians and business men) are confusing nations away from sustainable growth. Government servants join them since they fall helpless to change the system and are forced to be part of the rascals' activities to fill thier belly and keep his generations safe for the D-day.

I can visualise the current exploitation will lead to a day when consumerism will kill our own coutry men and spawn new age of slavery to sustain to retain market and real estate of handful of rascals.

My aoplogies for choice of words since nothing else can best describe them.

Only youth can steer to right focus and direction where are our nation can find sustainable and wholesome growth.

All the Best !!! Cheers !

Sdy,
I wont pretend that I understood everything that you wrote. But yes, development needs to be much more than just adding to the bottom line. As future leaders, there is an added responsibilty to keep the society's good also in focus.
But then I do believe that capitalism is a much better approach than socialism. We need to create the Microsofts, the GEs, the Exxons in India. There has to a beginning, and it can start only from being innovative. Sycophancy will curb the individualism and hence ability in the long run.

All I can say is that this Earth is sufficient for basic needs of people and not "wants". Capitalism runs on wrong assumption that mother Earth has infinite resource that never depletes.
You may wish to read between the lines that I have penned before. You can interpret the future of our genrations. The city municipal corps in Bangalore and Chennai have stopped approvals for new apartments since the Water board has realized that constant water supply until annual rainfall is no more sufficient.
The ground reality is different ! All I can see then is super powers will again start making use of our weakness where we are depleting natural resources to gain money. But a day will come when no money can buy you fresh air, pure drinking water.
Its high time that we focus on sustainability. I mean there is no point scrambling and paddling for more money that will deplete energy and resource soon.
WHAT IS THE HURRY THAT BRINGS DOWN HUMANS SOON DOWN TO SPECIES THAT ONCE EXISTED ON THIS PLANET!!!
Earth is good for needs and not "wants". All those lavish lifestyles and celebrity news on channels are only whimsical fancies and have least releveance in reality where people cannot afford one square meal a day.

WAKE UP YOUTH OF INDIA.

Change is the only constant and view this economic liberalisation as recognition to our nation to have a say in world of politics.
Now use it to show that we can be role models to rest of the world.

Once I saw a channel where Chinese govt interfaced with American Investors' question about democracy and liberalization in China. They challenged the assumption of Americans' attitude of showcasaing as idealistic democracy and told them that they are in the process out proving them incorrect. ENSURE THAT CONSEQUES OF EVERY ACTION ARE EQUALLY IMPORTANT RATHER MORE IMPORTANT EVEN THOUGH IT IS GOOD AND WE ALL ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT INTERVENING BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

Indians, please come out notion to always quote American standards as the idealistic ones.

They are utterly behind our integrity in diversity of cultures knit with fabric of moral values and compassion. Because we at the end of life take back nothing from this world.

Enjoy the beauty and use only things to fufil needs and not wants.

Let our future generations not point finger at us for being educated fools.

THINK AGAIN AND ACT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. AND THERE ARE 80% OF FOOLS FOR EVERY 20% OF EDUCATED PEOPLE AND WE SHOULD NOT BEHAVE LIKE IRRESPONSIBLE ONES.

TOUCH YOUR HEART AND QUESTION YOURSELF HOW MANY TIMES YOU MIGHT HAVE FACED SITUATIONS BUT DID NOT QUESTION THE WRONG DOINGS IN STREET OR OFFICE.

WAKE UP . YOU DO HAVE RIGHT TO QUESTION AND EXPECT ANSWERS.

Regards
SDY
